Loading / Filling the Chamber
The fully automated waste bin elevator fills the chamber with contaminated medical waste into the upper chamber at the top of the system.
Grinding begins when the loading cover is sealed. The heavy duty shredder has a unique feature it changes rotation directions, forward and backwards. This is done automatically and periodically to avoid jamming during the grinding process.
It will grind anything including glass, surgical stainless steels instruments and plastics will not cause any type of jamming.

Heating & Sterilization
Once shredding is done, pressurized steam is applied inside the chamber the temperature rises to 138 C degrees (280 F), and the pressure inside the chamber reaches 3.8 bars (55 psi) for a period of 10 minutes. The pressurized heat comes in contact with the shredded material 8Log10 reduction of the contaminated waste.
In order to avoid any accidents while unloading the treated waste, the temperature inside the chamber is lowered to 80 C degrees by spraying cold water inside the autoclave.

The cooling water along with the steam condensed to water is discharged to the sanitary sewer system. The remaining steam inside the chamber is vented through a vacuum pump that is part of the PROMED system.

Only when all phases have been completed a Safety Signal on the control panel lights up that informs the operator that is ready to unlock the bottom of the chamber allowing the treated medical waste to fall inside a container to be carried for disposal.
